Taking the First Step in Home Remodeling, Renovation - and Blog Writing!

Hello friends and family! As many of you know, I have spent the better part of the last two years developing an online business to help homeowners manage their remodeling and renovation projects. It’s certainly been a longer journey to get to where I am than I thought when I first launched this idea. I couldn’t have done it without the support of my amazing wife Louise and my ever-supportive Mom. Please read on to see where I’m at now and where this is all leading.

My Story

• Those of you whom I have spoken to about home remodeling and renovation know the passion I have for the topic and how I love to share my knowledge. From my roots as a carpenter building and remodeling homes in Colorado to being project manager for high-end remodels and custom homes in Los Angeles, I’ve pretty much seen it all. I know what it’s like to go through the remodeling process and what it takes to get the results you deserve. In fact, Louise and I remodeled our house on the Central Coast of California recently with great results.

• Throughout my career, the part I always enjoyed the most was helping homeowners manage their remodeling projects, not only to achieve great results but also to avoid costly mistakes. However, I was only able to work with a few clients at a time, while knowing that many people could benefit from my knowledge. My dream became to help as many people as possible with their remodeling and renovation projects while affecting real change within the industry.

• Now, for the first time to my knowledge, homeowners can receive practical advice, knowledge and help from a Certified Remodeling Project Manager - without paying upwards of $250 per hour.

Rebranding

• The idea of creating a system that homeowners could follow to become empowered leaders of their remodeling projects led me to brand my idea as Empower Systems. Once I started to test that brand name though, it became clear that the messaging was anything but clear to my target audience. Nobody knew what I did from the name and my marketing was lost among large companies with the same or similar names. I knew I had to go back to the branding fork in the road and take a different, clearer path.

Remodel Academy

• With my mission being to help homeowners learn how to manage their remodeling projects, I settled on the name Remodel Academy. You can find me on the web at www.Remodel.Academy and email me at [email protected].

• Through my website, you can explore free content such as guides, templates and in-depth articles, tools and knowledge such as spreadsheets and e-books and schedule free initial consultations and affordably priced coaching or consulting.

• In the near future, I will also be creating online courses, hosting a Facebook Live show and podcast and producing YouTube videos.

The Home Remodeler blog

• You are reading the first installment of the Home Remodeler blog. Future posts will be focused on providing practical, actionable advice and knowledge on topics such as:

  • Planning, budgeting, scheduling and managing remodeling projects

  • Vetting and working with contractors

  • Understanding construction contracts and legal aspects

  • Tracking expenses and accounting

  • Quality control

  • Close-out and final details
